The house was built in 1924 and it once was the oldest youth hostel in Bavaria. However, after 2011 it has been rarely used, after a modern hostel was built in the nearby Possenhofen. The German Youth Hostel Association took this opportunity to provide, together with Peter Maffay Foundation, a new long-term perspective for the building located in the beautiful pre-Alpine nature reserve. Peter Maffay Foundation renovated and refurbished the house near Lake Starnberg and turned it into a new therapeutic holiday home for children and teenagers. After reopening in 2011, the home has enjoyed wide popularity, and has been fully booked all year round. A wonderful concept and a classical win-win situation for the German Youth Hostel Association and for Peter Maffay Foundation, as well as for the many guests of Tabaluga House.
